In 2010, Elasticbrand (Arjen Noordeman and Christie Wright) wanted to create a collaborative project where we could take two things that they both love-ceramic objects and hip-hop music- and fuse them into one project: Audiowear.
Audiowear is a series of musical jewelry inspired by idiophone and aerophone
instruments and the acoustic quality of clay. The collection includes a trumpet bracelet, a gurio cuff with playing thimble, a whistle charm necklace, a pan-flute collar, a diamond shaped rattle bracelet, and colorful xylophone bangles. These objects were designed to create a vocabulary of sounds that could then be used for music production.
We traveled to the European Ceramic Work Center in Den Bosch, The Netherlands for the launch of their CAD/CAM facility. We created designs in 3D software and used their new 3D printing equipment to generate prototypes of which then plaster molds were created to produce a limited edition of porcelain jewelry. All items were hand cast in white or pigmented color porcelain.
